Amy Hansen has spent the majority of her career working with children. From her work with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to her Para Teacher work in Madison Wisconsin — her path has been continually leading her toward education.
When we examine what makes our staff so special, it isn’t difficult to see the obvious answer staring right back.
They care. They truly care.
Amy is no different. Before she became a teacher at Spero, she worked as a Para right here with us for a little over a year. During that time she took a look back at all the work she had been doing and said to herself:
“I want to have a bigger impact on the children’s future, on their success.”
That led her to where she is now. A full time teacher for our kiddos. We love our staff, so we asked her some questions about her work here with us and why she does what she does.
How has the transition been from Para to Teacher?
So smooth, especially since I know how the rooms work and the goals of the school! It was incredible to have some previous experience and it made it really easy to transition. Also, I’ve had so much help from other staff members. It’s been awesome.
What’s your favorite part about working with our kiddos?
I really enjoy getting to know them. Not only as students but as kids. They all have different personalities, strengths and weaknesses. It makes every day exciting and rewarding. I love working here because I really do love the kids.
What’s the best part about working with the Spero staff?
Everyone is constantly positive and excited to help kids figure out whatever it is they need. All of the staff members have a common vision. We all want to help them grow as individuals. It’s also really nice to have other staff around me that don’t get super frustrated by behaviors. We all get it.
How are you liking the new building?
I love it, and I know the students do too. My favorite part is definitely the track and the OT room, the climbing wall is the best!
What’s your favorite book?
Into the water by Paula Hawkins. It’s a little dark, but it’s great!
What do you like to do outside of the classroom?
I love to travel. Some of my favorite places I’ve been are probably Salt Lake City...and the French and Swiss Alps. So beautiful.
Can you describe Spero in 3 words?
Best. Job. Ever.
