Hi! I’m Sarah, and I’m very excited to be teaching PLS 2 this year! I worked as a paraprofessional in PLS rooms for two years before pursuing a Master’s Degree in Academic Behavioral Strategy at the University of St. Thomas, and have enjoyed the last four years of working in special education with creativity and enthusiasm!
I teach with a whole brain and whole body based approach. Learning in PLS 2 looks like touching, smelling, tasting, hearing, and lots of movement! Classroom staff guide students to explore learning through the integration of all the senses. We focus on mental wellness through movement, which regulates the mind and body, social emotional learning, and employing a strengths based approach. I value providing students plenty of room for freedom, choice, and creativity while in the safe space of a structured environment with clear expectations. It’s in this environment that the PLS 2 team creates space for valuable functional and academic learning, which is uniquely individualized for each student!
In my personal life I value creativity, spontaneity, and fun! My expressions include painting and printmaking. I also love to travel, spend time in nature, and bike. I believe that learning-like the rest of life- is explorative, and I’m so excited to see where this year takes us in PLS 2! Welcome!
