Spero Over the Years

spero over the years

Not many teachers on our staff have been around as long as Taryn McGovern. She’s been with us for over 7 years, and watched us evolve from Frasier to our brand new school.

Before she came to work with us, she was doing Behavior Therapy for nearly 8 years for kids with autism. She loved what she did and her thirst for educating children only grew stronger.

Her experience and passion for our kiddos is evident every single day. Not only do our students adore her, but our staff has learned quite a bit from her as well.

As our most senior educator, we wanted to ask Taryn about how she’s seen Spero over the years. How it has grown, changed and become her home for educating the future.

What are some of the biggest changes you’ve seen while working at Spero?

It’s been amazing to see how much we’ve grown. Not only with our faculty and students, but with the brand new building as well. We’re also able to offer more specialized learning than when I started, that’s been great!

What’s your favorite part about working with the Spero students?

It’s definitely seeing the growth, especially working with such a unique population. They are such incredible kids and watching them succeed is truly a gift.

What’s the best part about working with our staff?

With our staff, every single one of them understands Special Education. SPED was the exception in public schools and teachers had to make changes in their day to accommodate certain students. But at Spero, it’s the norm. Every single staff member is constantly making sure that every student gets the individualized attention they need. Everyone is on the same page.

What’s your favorite part about the new school?

This may seem a bit funny, but bathrooms in the classroom. It’s safer, and it’s much more convenient.

What’s your favorite book

What do you like to do outside the classroom?

I love playing with my two dogs. They’re names are Princess Peanut Butter and Bootsy Crouton.

Can you describe Spero in 3 word?

Rewarding. Individualized. Inclusive.
