Spero Academy is introducing a new service for our school this year with our school social worker. Our social worker is responsible for working with all students that are in need of various levels of support, both from an internal and external support level. Additionally, our school social worker will focus on building relationships with all students that demonstrate a need for services that go beyond academics, as well as the availability to work with the family to help partner, connect, and expand on social needs that directly impact the student. They will also work with our special education department to add insight to behaviors and goals for students, as needed. For more information, please feel free to contact our social worker directly to determine what support might be available.
I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Minneapolis after graduating from Art School. In 2005, I began my career in education as a teacher and then became a Dean of Students at a public charter school. I was an educational advocate for those experiencing homelessness or in transitional housing before getting my Master of Social Work. After graduating, I partnered with Ramsey County to provide in-home therapy for those in the juvenile justice system, while also continuing to work in schools. I am glad to be part of the Spero family full-time this year to learn, grow, and succeed with you and your children.
